Though many restaurants and large shops accept cards, artisan markets, local food stalls, public restrooms, and tips for guides or artisans only accept soles in cash. Bring small bills (10, 20, and 50 soles).

Don’t leave without trying the fresh trout (raised in local rivers), choclo con queso (giant corn with cheese), or roasted cuy (guinea pig) in traditional restaurants in Urubamba or Chinchero. Pair your meal with a muña or coca tea to aid digestion at altitude.
Avoid peak hours. Mass tours arrive at Pisac and Ollantaytambo between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. If you book a private tour, hop on an early colectivo, or go on your own, visit these sites before 9:00 a.m. or after 4:00 p.m. The light for photos is magical (the "golden hour"), and you’ll be able to enjoy the energy of the place without the crowds.
